Ingredients for Chocolate Basbousa:

  • • 1 pouch of Treat Me Gluten Free basbousa mix
  • 2 tablespoons pure cocoa powder
  • 1 cup full-fat yogurt (or plant-based alternative)
  • ½ cup melted butter (or plant-based alternative)
  • 1 can cream

For topping (optional):

  •  Chocolate chunks or melted chocolate
  •  Finely shredded coconut

Step-by-step preparation:

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and prepare a baking pan or cupcake tray by greasing lightly with oil or lining with cupcake papers.
  2. Prepare the basbousa batter: In a bowl, mix the basbousa blend with cocoa powder, then add yogurt, cream, and melted butter. Stir well until smooth and fully combined.
  3. Pour and decorate: Pour the batter into the baking pan or cupcake molds, then sprinkle chocolate chunks on top.
  4. Bake: Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Serve: Let the basbousa cool slightly, then garnish with shredded coconut or extra melted chocolate. Best of all, you won’t need to add syrup (shira).
